The news is the VoIP provider, Bandwidth.com that was catering primarily small and medium-sized businesses is going to gun for a share of large businesses. For this, it has launched a new division aimed specifically for the purpose.
Bandwidth.com specializes in buying bulk service from big carriers like AT&T and Sprint and resells these to small and medium sized businesses. Now, as big businesses are finding VoIP as a viable and reliable option they are making transition towards it. Due to the opportunity presented by this new trend, Bandwidth.com did what is logical for such a company to do.
Henry Kaestner, CEO, Bandwidth.com said;
That has changed in the last 18 months or so. There is a now a pronounced difference between consumer and business-class VoIP. Today enterprise companies are increasingly looking to migrate their telecom infrastructure to converged IP-based networks and services.
Taking a swipe on companies like Skype and Vonage, he said;
They are consumer services in disguise. They are not a good fit for our customers, but they may be the perfect fit for companies with less than five employees. We see a re-branding of consumer best-efforts voice as business-class voice, but the real need is guaranteed quality of service.
There is a very big market out there for VoIP providers like Bandwidth.com as many medium to large companies are taking to VoIP. In fact, companies like Bandwidth.com are at an advantage now to cash in this exploding market. As Henry said the real need is guaranteed quality of service and if that is met with, the business in corporate sector might just prove to be more lucrative and sustainable than the consumer market for the players down there. In any case, the consumer market is too overcrowded and almost reaching stagnation point.
