Microsoft will soon provide VoIP phones to Filipino overseas workers to make cheaper calls to their families.



In VoIP technology, allows users to make cheap phone calls or free long distance call anywhere in world through voice calls to IP network or Internet instead of traditional circuit-switched networks.



Microsoft is working on this project with partnership of the Overseas Workers Welfare Association. Microsoft and government agencies are also collaborating on other technology project. Microsoft believes that the company has to do spend more among Filipino foreign workers due to lack of infrastructure and poor Internet connectivity.



They will require to sign up to use the special VoIP phone and the VoIP-enabled PC in OWWA. After registration, the OFWs can make VoIP calls from ‘30 OFW global centers’ of OWWA.



OWWA would be involved in the execution of this program. This program will also work out with carriers, banks, service providers, Microsoft independent software vendors on this project.
