I am really surprised the way Skype Extras developer program is gaining immense popularity among the developers. In the month of April, the third party developed plug-ins recorded more than 10 million downloads, when I reported.
In less than a two-month, it gathered another 11 million downloads. In total, the developer program has more than 21 million downloads in the first six months of its launch.
Launched for Skype 3.0 version in January this year, the developer program has fostered Skype’s broader vision not only in its core VoIP business but also in social networking.
The extras are plug-ins written by independent third-party developers to enable Skypers to add multiple features such as games, personalized video avatars and collaborations with people in the Skype functionality and enhance Skype conversions.
