Joining in the on-going VoIP WiFi race, Deutsche Telekom’s subsidiary T-Mobile has introduced its latest Wi-Fi calling service ‘HotSpot@Home’ this week.
Currently, the HotSpot@Home is under trial in Seattle with a group of about 300 users. T-Mobile’s Wi-Fi calling service facilitates subscribers to make free phone calls using their at-home WiFi network or from public WiFi hot spots.
As of now, this service is available for the Samsung T709 and Nokia 6136 dual mode phones. The price of both the phones is fixed at $49.99 for a two-year contract and unlimited Wi-Fi calling costs $19.99 per month over the price of a T-Mobile voice plan. The entire service comes with a free, re-labeled D-Link 802.11g Wi-Fi router.
Another striking feature of the HotSpot@Home service is its UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access) technology that brings flawless handover between WiFi and mobile calls, so as the users can easily switch over to different networks without missing calls.
